Metformin for weight loss or PCOS – anyone seeing real results?

I’ve been prescribed Metformin for insulin resistance/PCOS and heard a lot of people use it off-label for weight loss even without diabetes. Some say it helps curb appetite and drop 5-10 kg over months when combined with diet, others say it does almost nothing or the GI side effects (diarrhea, bloating) make it unbearable. Has it actually helped with steady weight loss for you, or is it mostly useful for blood sugar control? Curious about long-term experiences.

Been on Metformin (XR 1000 mg twice daily) for about 9 months now mainly for PCOS/insulin issues – lost around 8 kg so far without crazy changes to my routine, which is more than I managed before. The appetite suppression is subtle but real: fewer cravings for carbs/sweets, and I feel fuller longer. Early weeks were rough – loose stools and some nausea if I didn’t take it with food – but switching to extended-release and always eating with meals fixed most of that. This person’s experience post is pretty spot-on with what I went through: starting dose, how to minimize stomach upset, and the gradual weight/fasting insulin improvements https://www.medsforless.co.uk/buy-metformin/ Not a magic pill by any means, still need calorie control, but it gives your metabolism a helpful nudge if insulin resistance is the blocker. Results vary a lot person to person though
