How can small businesses make the most of Small Business Saturday beyond discounts?

I’m trying to figure out how to get more out of Small Business Saturday this year without just slashing prices again. Last year I did a huge discount and it brought people in, but honestly it didn’t help my profit at all. I run a tiny handmade home décor shop, and I’d love to use the day to actually build relationships or get people to come back later. Has anyone tried alternative approaches that worked?

Running a deep discount is the easiest way to get traffic and the fastest way to teach people to wait for cheaper prices. For a shop like that, Small Business Saturday works better as a loyalty play: limited bundles, early access to holiday pieces, small gifts for repeat buyers, handwritten thank-you cards, or a bounce-back offer for a later visit. The goal is not one busy day but stronger customer memory. A healthy brand should be built the same way people prepare to sell a small business someday: with repeat buyers, recognizable identity, and value that does not collapse the moment the discount disappears.
